Web design critiques for www.pleasecritiqueme.com
May 12, 2009
I’m proud to have been asked to participate on www.pleasecritiqueme.com as a web site critic. Pleasecritiqueme was created by the good folks at onwired and is a site that provides web site owners with honest, objective and helpful reviews of their sites.

My first victim. I mean assignment.
The site I was given to review was www.greenshipping.com, a site that allows users to offset the carbon footprint generated by shipping packages by giving money to renewable energy projects. Great idea, not such a great web site. Read the full critique here.

Spare the rod, spoil the web site owner
There’s a temptation when critiquing sites to avoid any actual criticism. You don’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings, you want everyone to like you, etc. But in order to get anything out of a review, the reviewer must provide some honest opinion, especially if the subject of the review needs some work (as was the case with greenshipping.com). The site owner does not benefit from flattery; quite the opposite – armed with a constructive set of suggestions, he or she can then work on improving their site.
I look forward to doing more critiques for pleasecritiqueme, and in the mean time look out for more 140 character site reviews at www.twitter.com/showusyoursite.

Hey there
I work for a website design company, some great points that you’ve expressed there, it can be hard to maintain a foothold in the web design / Internet specialists area.
thanks.
